Vaping on the Colder Side
So many vapers don’t realize just how much the cold winter air affects the way in which we vape. From altering the consistency of our e-liquids to compromising the functionality of our batteries, winter weather impacts every aspect of our vaping experience.
The good news is that it’s easy to adjust our vaping sessions in order to accommodate the cold winter months. The tips below will help you winterize your vaping experience without requiring that you spend loads of money on new equipment.
Tip #1: Play Around with Your VG/PG Ratio
To the surprise of many, cold weather can dramatically impact the consistency of our e-liquid. Any experienced vape enthusiast knows that the consistency of their e-liquid determines the size of their clouds, the potency of their juice’s flavor and the smoothness of each pull.
When e-juice is exposed to cold air, it becomes thicker. That’s because many of its molecules freeze while vegetable glycerin (VG) and propylene glycol (PG), two alcohol-derived ingredients, do not.
As it becomes thicker, your clouds will be bigger and denser. Your throat hit will also be less pronounced due to the change in viscosity. And, you might not taste as bold a flavor when you inhale.
If you prefer a stronger throat hit, a richer flavor and smaller clouds, increase your PG level during the winter months. However, if clouds are your top priority, feel free to enjoy the effect that cold air has on your e-liquid.
Tip #2: Keep Your Mod, Batteries and E-Liquid Warm
As we said, cold air alters the consistency of your vape juice. If you want to avoid this from happening altogether, strive to keep your bottles of vape juice in a warm place during the cold winter season. A drawer or a cabinet should be just fine.
Cold weather affects your mod and batteries as well. While most mods are highly resilient, they should never be exposed to freezing temperatures over a long period of time. This can compromise their ability to function properly.
It’s also crucial that you keep your batteries warm during the winter season. When vape batteries get cold, their electrons move at a much slower pace. This requires each battery to work extra hard in order to power your device. As a result, your battery life can be greatly reduced.
Tip #3: Choose Your Drip Tip Wisely
Metal drip tips absorb cold air. As a result, they can feel quite unpleasant against the lips if you’re vaping outdoors on a particularly cold day. Besides feeling uncomfortable, cold drip tips can cause your lips to lose moisture. This can lead to chapped lips that are painful and unsightly.
If you’re willing to spend some money, you may want to consider switching to a glass or plastic drip tip that you can use during the winter season. Otherwise, make sure that you use a lip balm consistently throughout the day.
Tip #4: Embrace the Flavors of Winter
If you’re a flavor junkie, be sure to explore the wide array of winter-inspired e-liquids that are out there. Wintery vape flavors will help you get into the spirit of the season.
